About staying in Hazyview
Hazyview is a farming town on the Sabie River in Mpumalanga, close to the south-western edge of the Kruger National Park. Phabeni Gate is about 10 km from town, which makes Hazyview a common base for day trips into Kruger.
Where you stay depends on the plan. The town itself has the shops and is closest to Phabeni Gate. The R536 follows the Sabie River east for about 45 km to Paul Kruger Gate, the quickest way to Skukuza, so stays along that road suit people who will enter there.
The dry winter months, roughly May to September, are when the bush is thinner and game is easier to find. Hazyview is in a malaria area. SANParks gives the malaria season as October to April, with March and April the highest risk. December and Easter are the busiest times, and Kruger's gates can reach their day-visitor limits then.
The nearest airport is Kruger Mpumalanga International, about 50 km south near White River. From Johannesburg it is about 430 km, roughly five hours, mostly on the N4.
Nearby: - Phabeni Gate, Kruger, about 10 km. - Sabie River rafting, tubing and forest trails around town. - Sabie, about 40 km west on the R536. - Graskop on the Panorama Route, about 45 km, with God's Window 9 km beyond it.
Tip: in December and other peak periods, pre-book a Kruger day visit with SANParks. Once a gate's daily quota is reached, only pre-booked day visitors and overnight guests are let in.
